Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and experienced protein biochemist for the center for drug discovery at Baylor College of Medicine. As an integral member of our drug discovery and development group, the candidate will work on the expression, purification, and analytical characterization of protein targets for use in affinity measurements and structure elucidation.

Job Purpose

Performs responsible research work that requires planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor.

Job Duties

The core responsibilities of this job include;

 1. Identify, design, and generate appropriate protein constructs for targets of interest for biophysical analysis and structure elucidation;

2. Manage protein expression and purification projects for the co-crystallization of protein targets;

3. Perform analytical characterization and labeling of protein preparations;

4. Develop and execute high through-put affinity, and biochemical or activity assays to evaluate hits from affinity screens;

5. Work closely with the CDD and communicate results at weekly lab meetings;

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.
