Job Description

Summary

This position will work with a study coordinator to contact and schedule human subjects for two large NIH funded human genetic studies. In the first study, the Community Texome project, underserved individuals who have not had access to genomic sequencing are recruited for genomic diagnostics. This project is funded by the NHGRI. In the second study, Rio Grande Project GIVE, children with rare diseases in underserved communities are recruited to participate in whole genome sequencing. The individual will work with Drs. Wangler and Lalani, a study coordinator, lab manager, lab technicians, post-docs and graduate students. 

Job Duties

 

  • Meets with human subjects along with M.D.in the clinic for intake exam and recruitment.
  • Performs pre-test genetic counseling and guidance for families.
  • In post-test scenarios, provides genetic counseling and return of results.  
  • Participates in sequencing analysis using software and tools developed by our lab and team, including use of MARRVEL (www.MARRVEL.org).
  • Develops gene candidates for specific cases of disease.
    • This involves assessing lists of variants and categorizing their predicted pathogenicity.
  • Participates in departmental meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's in Genetic Counseling
  • Completion of a Master's thesis.  No experience required.
