Job Description

Research Associate with Immunology training is sought to investigate how dietary lipids influence environment-triggered lupus . Research will employ both a unique recently-described murine fetal liver-derived self-replicating ex vivo alveolar macrophage model that is genetically tractable (see https://doi.org/10.4049/immunohorizons.2200011 ) and a novel silica-triggered autoimmune mouse model (see https://doi.org/10.1177/0192623319878398 ).

We are looking for an individual who can independently design and execute experiments as member of a superb research team and a rich collaborative research environment involving the laboratories of Drs. James Pestka , Andrew Olive , and Jack Harkema. This is a 2 year +, NIH-supported post-doctoral research appointment in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Duties: Cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry, in vivo mouse studies, assays of immune function, bioinformatics. Designing/conducting experiments, analyzing data, preparing data for publication and grant submission . Training/guidance of undergraduate and graduate researchers. Presenting at national/international meetings and applying for fellowships/grants.

Education: Doctorate (PhD, MD, VMD) in immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, toxicology, nutrition, or a related biomedical field.

Experience: The ideal individual should have strong experimental skills, organizational skills, as well as the ability to interface with researchers across disciplines. Minimal expectations include first-authored publication, training in molecular biology and cell culture techniques and willingness to work with murine models. Individuals with training in immunological methods, macrophage biology, autoimmunity, animal models, CRISPR, and/or bioinformatics are particularly encouraged to apply
