Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati Libraries seeks a dynamic, passionate, and creative Science & Engineering Global Services Librarian to provide research and instructional programs for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) populations, with a special emphasis on support of international programs and partnerships in STEM. The Librarian provides critical user support through research assistance/consultations, teaching and workshops, collection development and support for scholarly communications and digital scholarship. The Librarian is the liaison to designated programs and departments in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) and the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences (A&S). For international programs and outreach, a primary emphasis is on library/academic support for the Chongqing University-UC Joint Co-op Institute (JCI). The JCI, administered by the College of Engineering and Applied Science, is a bi-institutional partnership with a growing number of undergraduate cooperative education programs in engineering and technology. The Librarian works closely with JCI staff/faculty to provide high-quality services and foster the relationship between UC and CQU. Within the Science and Engineering Libraries (SEL) unit, the Librarian is responsible for coordinating unit instruction and outreach. More broadly, the Librarian collaborates across the university, working closely with fellow librarians, teaching and research faculty, and others to pursue cross-cutting initiatives and scholarly outcomes. The Librarian operates under the principles of the UC Libraries Strategic Framework: NEXT Directions, https://libraries.uc.edu/about/strategic-framework/, which articulates the Guiding Principles and Pathways for the Libraries.



Reports to and receives general direction from the Director of the Science and Engineering Libraries (SEL). Functional supervisor for student assistants as related to responsibilities and special projects.



This is a full-time library faculty tenure-track position.

Essential Functions
Liaison librarian for designated programs and departments in engineering, technology and the sciences. Develops, implements and assesses innovative solutions that foster liaison outreach and integration, library services, student engagement and new partnership.
Coordinates library collection development for assigned disciplines. Develops and implements data-driven strategies for growing, enhancing and evaluating collections. Contributes to team-based collection development initiatives in the Science and Engineering Libraries and across all of UC Libraries.
Plans and delivers instruction and workshops for faculty, students and researchers. Coordinates with faculty to integrate scholarly resources into the curriculum.
Librarian for the CQU-UC Joint Co-op Institute (JCI). Prepares and delivers online and in-person library/information instruction for JCI students. Develops research guides, learning modules and other resources to support instruction on library skills and other topics (academic integrity, plagiarism, etc.). Occasional travel to China may be necessary.
Provides academic/support services for the JCI. Supports JCI teaching faculty with preparing course materials, help the JCI team with maintaining publications, and assist with other projects as needed.
Identifies opportunities to grow support for other STEM-related international programs of the university. Provide support to wider international initiatives at the university as needed.
Coordinates instruction for the Science and Engineering Libraries unit. Builds a collegial community centered on best practices with pedagogy, teaching, LibGuides and integration into the curriculum.
Oversees SEL outreach efforts such as social media, blog posts and promotional materials.
Collaborates with librarians and informationists in SEL and libraries-wide on initiatives in instruction, outreach, collection development, and research projects.
Serves on appropriate committees and organizations related to duties and responsibilities, librarian liaison disciplines and the strategic interests of UC Libraries.
Required Education
Master’s degree in library or information science/management or relevant graduate education, or a comparable combination of education and experience.

Required Experience
One year of experience in an academic or research library.
Experience with user instruction.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Educational or experiential background in science or engineering.
One year of work experience in a STEM-oriented library or information services environment.
Commitment to innovative and responsive library services.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of current teaching pedagogies and instructional technologies.
Demonstrated awareness of trends and issues in scholarly communications or digital scholarship.
Understanding of support for international users.
Working knowledge of Mandarin or a related language.
Ability and interest in fulfilling the scholarly and service requirements for reappointment, tenure and promotion of library faculty.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
