The Microscopy group and Chemical & Materials Science group in X-ray Science Division of Advanced Photon Source are looking for a postdoctoral appointee to perform beamline technique developments of combining ptychography and small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) for nanostructure characterization. The selected candidate will participate in the experiment design and perform scientific research by taking advantage of the unique imaging and scattering capabilities of the SAXS beamline at Sector 12-ID-C and valuable resources at Microscopy beamlines. In the associated data analysis, the selected candidate will be responsible for developing new methods to address challenges of data processing, as well as exploring solutions to enhance the synergy and reconstruction efficacy with acquired multimodal data. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team, including physicists, chemists, neuroscientist, and engineers, and will lead the effort in deploying software for multimodal data analysis in this project.
· Recent or soon to be completed PhD (typically completed within the last 0-3 years) in physics or a related field with expertise in computational imaging.
· Knowledge of x-ray physics, including small-angle scattering, diffraction, coherent imaging, Fourier-domain signal processing, etc.
· Expertise in Python or other scientific programming languages.
· Experience working with experimental instrumentation is a plus. Programming skills in workflows, numerical methods for imaging processing and tomography, AI/ML methods for quality improvement are a plus.
· Presentation and documentation skills for describing research and clearly communicating results and data.
