Job Summary
Augusta University Online is a innovative new unit with AU tasked with extending access to AU degrees for Georgia and beyond. The unit will serve as an internal “OPM” (Online Program Management company) that will help the university build new, advanced capabilities in online instruction, marketing, and student services using the latest insourced and outsourced educational technologies. Augusta is one of only 4 major research universities in the state, and the only public health research center. The Director of Instructional Design will lead all efforts related to online course developments for August University Online. Reporting to the AVP of Online Education, the Director of Instructional Design will assist with the long-term and day-to-day management of online courses and programs offered by Augusta University Online. The Director is the principal manager of courses developed for AU online learning programs to support AU Online programs.

Specifically, the Director will lead the development of innovative online programs and courses through direct consultation with the individual faculty and faculty groups regarding online course design, delivery, and quality assurance. The Director is responsible for leading a team who are responsible for working collaboratively with faculty, subject matter experts, and cross departmental stakeholders in the conceptualization, design, development, and on-time delivery of high-quality online courses and learning experiences. The Director plays a key leadership role in decisions related to learning design, ensures that experiences meet the specifications of the degree programs and adheres to institutional expectations for rigor, quality, and scalability. This person will collaborate with the Center for Instructional Innovation, colleagues, IT, faculty, staff, and Administration to design, develop and deliver quality online courses and programs that effectively integrate teaching methods, technology tools and assessments to enhance student learning to meet both instructional quality and student experience standards. Work will focus on creating new online programs and curricula that will support the online offerings. The Director will lead quality assurance for online courses and will ensure the development of processes and procedures that increase consistency, quality and regulatory compliance of online courses and programs. The successful candidate will understand and be able to implement best practices in instructional design, understand the most up to date and advanced instructional technology, serve as a creative problem solver and is expected to engage in a spirt of positive support for our online efforts as well as instructional innovation and work collaborative with colleagues across the campus community. The Director will have strong experiences in the 4 following areas: curricular project management, learning design, student assessment, expertise in online pedagogy, media, and instructional technology.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:

Manage Online Course Developments:
Utilizing Project Management skills, the Director will ensure that the developments meet needed timelines for delivery and in alignment with established standards and best practices. This position will manage the Augusta University online courses within the LMS and will identify, implement, and oversee training on all the related components that are integrated within the courses or are linked to it for effective course delivery and high levels of both student and faculty engagement. Finally, this position will communicate frequently with the AVP of Online Education regarding any recommendations/concerns/issues that occur with course developments, course maintenance and technology and work with other departments to resolve as needed.

Managing and Lead Staff:
Sets expectations for Instructional Desigh Team to create online learning environments for faculty and students. Sets and manages deadlines of projects and holds their teams accountable for meeting them and their related performance outcomes. This position will ensure that their staff effectively collaborates with and guide faculty in creative and effective best practice use of instructional design methodologies and the usage of various online learning technologies.

Manage Quality Assurance:
This position will hold internal and external contributors to online courses accountable for the quality of work that is produced that contributes to the online learning environment. For new and existing online courses, processes/standards for ensuring quality course design in alignment with best practices and standards such as Quality Matters will need to be created, maintained and communicated along with appropriate follow-up.

Manage Faculty Professional Development, Training and Consultations:
This position will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and leading online faculty training that relates to course development, pedagogy, and associated online course technologies. Standards of best practice will be utilized in trainings.

Ongoing Professional Growth:
Mentor Instructional Design Team in their job roles, professional growth, and development; update and improve one's own knowledge, skills and attitudes pertaining to the instructional design and quality process, faculty development, new models of instruction, emerging technologies, and related fields. Optionally, present or publish scholarship related to educational development, instructional design, higher education, and teaching and learning. General responsibilities: Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field from an accredited institution. Experience with online/blended course development and integration of educational technology in the learning environment. Experience with multimedia development. Experience with Quality Matters. 5 or more years of experience with managing a team of Instructional Designers/Technologists. 3 or more years of online and/or hybrid teaching experience in higher education. 5 years' experience in instructional design, educational technology educational media, instructional systems design, or a related field. Demonstrated success working with faculty members or other instructional staff to improve teaching and learning and in their use of learning management systems. Experience using learning management systems, visual presentation software, online collaboration tools, and web authoring tools to create online learning environments. Experience with learning analytics. Experience implementing a variety of rubrics and standards for quality assurance purposes. Ability to apply learning-design strategies that support student outcomes. Ability to integrate assessment strategies that allow for ongoing student feedback. Experience developing and facilitating professional development opportunities to faculty members. Presentation and/or publication in peer-reviewed contexts. Experience with Project Management Tools and Processes.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Project Management:

Ability to use Project Management techniques and software to keep track of ongoing projects and plan for new ones. Ability to keep various stakeholders in the online course development process accountable in meeting timeline and quality standards and requirements.

Pedagogy:
Knowledge of learning theories and how they apply to online and blended learning environments. Pedagogical knowledge and skills necessary to deliver quality online, learning content. Ability to apply an appropriate instructional design process to a given instructional project/problem. Ability to apply quality rubrics to improve course design and online teaching.

Professional and interpersonal communication:
Use active listening skills. Communicate effectively in visual, oral, and written form. Effective communication with diverse groups of faculty members, staff, and others. Solicit, accept, and provide constructive feedback. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships with internal and external clients. A strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion within academe and the community at large.

Technology:
Ability to guide faculty in creative and effective use of available campus and related technologies. Ability to assist faculty members with the development of multimedia materials. Ability to learn and support new emerging technologies used in the delivery of online courses. Ability to author WCAG 2.0 compliant content and materials. Effective use of a variety of educational technology tools (examples: Desire2Learn, Echo360, MS Teams, Adobe Creative Cloud, Respondus,
Anthology, etc..)
Competency in web-related technologies, including HTML.

Project management and team interactions:
Excellent detail-orientation and organizational skills. Ability to work independently or in a team setting. Ability to function in a distributed collaborative work environment. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet departmental objectives and deadlines.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
