The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

The focus of our laboratories is pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs) and identifying new approaches to treat this disease.  We are looking for someone to assist with physiological experiments in rodents using non-invasive high-resolution digital ultrasound imaging (Vevo3100) of pulmonary blood vessels, genotyping of novel rodent models and maintenance of rodent model colonies, isolation of tissues, imaging of tissue sections and culture of vascular cells.  We seek a motivated individual who enjoys working in a team and learning/acquiring new skills. A background in biology is important and we will provide training.

Responsibilities

 
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Performs maintenance and propagation of mammalian cell cultures, transfection, gene editing, gene cloning, genotyping, Western blotting, mouse breeding, microscopy. The position duties also include procurement and maintenance of laboratory resources and upkeep of the laboratory.
Perform the experiments designed by the PI in the laboratory using biochemical, cell culture, and molecular assays. Perform breeding, maintenance, and maintain the database for animals. Schedule all treatment protocols and treat animals.
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols and publications.
Analyze results of experiments using manual or computer techniques; Summarize and evaluate findings; Generate figures for publication.
Order supplies and stock lab, clean and maintain laboratory and equipment.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Required Qualifications

 
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Preferred Qualifications

 
Some previous experience with social/behavioral science (public health) research is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

 
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to use sound judgement and work independently. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Shift: Days M/F

Pay Grade: R9

Salary: Minimum $15.00/hour

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
