The Department of Ophthalmology seeks a full-time non-tenure track faculty member to join our Cornea Service at the Assistant or Associate professor level. They should be able to complete the mission of the department while providing passionate care, along with accurate diagnosis and treatments. Duties will include clinical care of patients, didactic and clinical training of residents, medical students, and fellows. The successful candidate would be expected to play a pivotal role in growth of the cornea service as they fulfill the academic and clinical missions of Augusta University and the Medical College of Georgia. The candidate should have a strong commitment to clinical, resident teaching and supervision as well as medical student teaching. Coupled to these are opportunities in administrative and leadership positions.

Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

Clinical Care and Treatment of Patients
  • Provide medical and surgical care to Ophthalmology patients at the Augusta University Health System (AUHS).
  • Participate in the growth of the clinical, research, and educational aspects of the department.
  • Promote compliance with AUHS physician performance standards with respect to quality indicators, medical records completion, patient satisfaction, billing and coding documentation, prompt and accurate submission of charges for service, and proper conduct of physicians in relation to colleagues, co-workers, and patients.
  • Participate in quality improvement programs within the department consistent with AUHS quality objectives
  • Develop and foster the highest level of medical performance throughout the region
  • Develop collaborative relations within the local and regional community

Teaching/Instruction
  • Participate actively in the teaching activities in the Department of Ophthalmology including mentoring and advising of medical students, residents and fellows.
  • Attend all departmental meetings and conferences.


Required Qualifications

Successful completion a residency in ophthalmology and a post-residency fellowship in Cornea.

Applicants must be board certified/eligible and fellowship trained in cornea and external disease.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.


Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Department of Ophthalmology is a robust, multispecialty group of clinicians and researchers that provide the full range of ophthalmic subspecialty and comprehensive vision care for the Augusta University Health System and Medical College of Georgia, the academic medical center for the University System of Georgia.
