Position Summary

The CCARE Program Manager is hired to supervise and manage COE activities and CCARE staff, program activities and research protocols. Manages, coordinates, develops, conducts and evaluates CCARE COE and community projects and health education programs, outreach efforts and materials. Manages and coordinates CCARE research protocols including management of recruitment, implementation of research interventions, data collection, data management, and data analysis. Manages research studies and programs and assists with reports. Manages all CCARE community partnerships, and all CCARE’s community engagement planning, process and implementation. Minimum seven years community health education experience and five-year experience working with diverse and underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Manages and supervises CCARE staff, program activities and research protocols.
  • Plans, develops, and evaluates culturally informed curriculum and training for staff and community partners. Manages, plans, develops, and evaluates health education and cancer control workshops, program and materials. Manages, plans, develops, implements and evaluates capacity building trainings for community organizations. Manages advertisement, implementation and follow up of participants for community events.
  • Manages CCARE health education projects. Develops and maintains partnerships with appropriate community organizations, including serving on community advisory boards.
  • Develops and manages the writing and preparation of grant proposals, reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Manages and monitors status of CCARE projects and staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborates with various community agencies/organizations in order to promote/develop community-based participatory research and programs.
  • Identifies and communicates important program management issues or problem areas to the Director.
  • Demonstrates understanding of all professional and regulatory standards.
  • Plans and coordinates CCARE conferences and community events.
  • Communicates effectively with all staff, customers, and colleagues to meet organizational goals.
  • Maintains current knowledge, skills, and competencies through involvement in professional continuing education activities.
  • Uses resources efficiently.
  • Manages department records, reports, and files.
  • Disseminates clinical, educational and/or research findings through publications and presentations of various kinds within and outside the institution.
  • Trains, manages, and supports CCARE staff.
  • Provides specialized technical consultation to medical, research, and organization staff on development and evaluation of patient and community health education programs and materials. Leads and facilitates interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive community health education programs and integrate City of Hope into the community. Develop, select and evaluate print and multi-media community health education materials.
  • Disseminates CCARE program information and resources to public via media interviews and articles.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, or related field with substantial coursework in Health Education, Health Sciences, Health Promotion or Community Education.
  • Seven years community health education experience and five years’ experience working with diverse and underserved communities.
  • Health disparities, preventive medicine, oncology, public health or comparable field or must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience/training as a Community Interventionist at the City of Hope.
  • 1 year of experience in a leadership capacity.

Preferred education, experience and skills:

  • Public health, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant.

Preferred Certification/Licensure:

  • CPR Certification, Medical Interpretation, Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $37.80 - $63.13 / hour
