Job Description

Summary

Work in the lab focuses on the development and maintenance of neural circuits in mouse models. The primary responsibilities of this position include mouse colony management and care tasks such as weaning, breeding, clipping, PCR genotyping, and record keeping. The applicant will also assist with administrative tasks such as ordering, invoice management, preparing lab stocks and solutions, assisting in laboratory stocking and organization, and documenting results and other job-related duties as assigned. The applicant will work under minimal supervision by a higher-level research staff member but be capable of managing his or her own duties and research efforts in consultation with the supervisor. 

Job Duties

  • Assists in maintaining animal colony through breeding and weaning.
  • Conducts tissue collections from pups. 
  • Performs daily PCR and genotyping.
  • Enters and track genotyping results
  • Runs mouse colony management software.
  • Troubleshoots new genotyping protocols.
  • Prepares lab stocks and solutions and assists in laboratory stocking and organization.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Documents results of experiments. 
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment. 
  • Tracks order and helps resolved encumbrances. 
  • Performs surgeries.
  • Learns and applies tissue sectioning and histology.
  • Understands and analyses neural circuits.
  • Works on mouse surgeries, and tissue analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in mouse colony management and animal handling is desired.
  • Expertise with PCR and database record keeping is a plus.
