Pastry Chef

The Pastry Chef processes and produces a variety of pastries such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. for the cafeteria and private lunches under supervision of the Executive Chef. Assures that all pastries are attractively presented and appealing to customer, producing a positive departmental and hospital reputation. Labels and stores food correctly to avoid waste and spoilage. Cleans and clears area after food preparation and baking process to provide the most sanitary working conditions.

The successful candidate:

  • Must be able work Mon - Fri 5am-1.30pm and Weekends as needed.

  • Creates desserts by using existing recipes already established. The Pasty Chef will also be required to present new desserts to the patients, caregivers and employees.

  • Develops seasonal desserts using existing recipes and new and improved healthy options for the patients, caregivers, and employees.

  • Ensures that all equipment in the pastry areas is operable and safe by completing daily checks. All safety and security issues should be reported to the Executive Chef or Director of Culinary immediately.

  • Operates and manages the pastry area with the Executive Chef to ensure a successful working environment.

  • Uses correct food prep/cooking/baking equipment according to sanitation standards and Department of Health Codes and Regulations.

  • Ensures proper storage of unused food items are sealed, labeled, and dated properly according to the Department of Health regulations. Ensure all areas of the Pastry area is cleaned and properly sanitized before and after shift. The Pastry Chef may be asked to perform other duties outside of the Pastry area such as serving, prepping and completing other day to day task in the kitchen.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • One year previous experience required

  • One year experience in similar settings as a Production/Pastry Cook

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $17.00 - $21.90 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
