Pharmacy Technician

The successful candidate:

Hours: Mon - Fri 1.30pm - 10pm (possible holiday (once a year) and weekends (as needed))*

*There will be rotational on-call (Sat/Sun 7am - 7pm) every 7-8 weeks

Job Summary:

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician under the supervision of a registered pharmacist is fully trained and competent in assisting in a multitude of pharmacy technician roles within the department. These may include but are not limited to the areas of inpatient/hospital, retail, purchasing, ADM’s, clean room competency testing, training, and medication history. In addition, the Specialty Pharmacy Technician also holds additional knowledge in the areas of medication insurance processing on either the hospital side, retail side, or both and steps in regularly to assist in these areas.

This position typically will not have direct reports but will assist in the coordination of other technician operations and function especially in times when a direct supervisor is not present.

Minimum requirements:

  • Meets all current State of Illinois licensing requirements for a Pharmacy Technician as specified in the Pharmacy Practice Act including certification. Must be certified

  • Two years of college preferred (High School graduate, including courses in mathematics, typing and general science is acceptable)

  • 5 years Pharmacy Experience preferred (or equivalent in any setting) with 3 years in a hospital environment.

  • Experience in working with 3rd party coverage policies and reimbursement required

Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Spreadsheets/Word-processing)

  • Mathematically able to calculate dosages.

  • Previous IV experience as well as chemotherapy preparation experience

  • Previous experience with hospital and retail pharmacy IT systems

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work efficiently in satisfying patient needs is required.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $20.96 - $34.52 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
