Job Description

Summary

The Thoracic Surgical Oncology Translational Laboratory is hiring a research coordinator who will lead data entry and maintenance of mesothelioma databases at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC). This person will assist with laboratory work with a focus on our mouse models.  

 

The candidate will coordinate daily activities with research protocols which include database entry, maintenance, monitoring, and biweekly reporting from two institutions lead by faculty at Baylor College of Medicine. Additionally, the candidate will assist the assistant professor in scientific experimentation with a particular focus on mouse models.

Job Duties

  • Maintains the IRB-approved IASLC Mesothelioma Staging Project database which includes entry of new patients, updating data on existing patients, generates reports biweekly, and ensures compliance with patient confidentiality standards. (10%)
  • Performs review of medical records for patients on IASLC database as well as other relevant Thoracic Surgical databases.  Specifically, will review prior medication records for a recently funded R01 award. (10%)
  • Develops database at the MEDVAMC for patients with mesothelioma to specifically evaluate the outcomes associated with prior medication administration. (10%)
  • Collects, processes, ships, and maintains paperwork for blood and biological specimens based on procedures outlined in current protocols.  (10%)
  • Maintains regulatory documents and records for research databases in conjunction with the Thoracic Division Laboratory Manager. (10%)
  • Organizes databases for reporting at biweekly meetings in conjunction with Thoracic Division Clinical Research Supervisor.  (10%)
  • Orders supplies and equipment as needed to assist thoracic division manager.    (10%)
  • Collects and processes specimens as needed in collaboration with research coordinators who manage the thoracic biorepository.  (10%)
  • Assists with basic scientific experiments with Assistant Professor in the laboratory with a particular focus on mouse models.  These experiments include drug injections, tumor measurements, and data records.  (10%)
  • May assist with basic scientific techniques such as cell culture, immunoblotting, qRT-PCR, preparation of solutions and culture media.  (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
