As a successful candidate, you will:

The Network Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing, and administering LAN, WLAN, WAN, Data, and Voice Networks. Architects topology and performs configuration of switches, routers, wireless controllers, and network security components. Conducts performance monitoring and tuning of data network elements and generates performance reports. Provide 2nd level response to network issues. Maintains the day-to-day Help Desk user requests, service requests, and projects

  • Forecast, engineer, configure, and implement solutions incorporating routers, switches, wireless devices, and network security components.
  • Basic understanding of network convergence and enabling “mobility” in large multi-site environment.
  • Provides technical assistance to vendors, contractors, and service providers in identifying and solving problems and fulfills Help Desk day-to-day network related requests.
  • Provides technical coordination and assistance with service providers and vendors.
  • Monitors the network using monitoring software like Solarwinds, Nagios, Airwave, and other network security monitoring solutions.
  • Monitors and verifies proper operation of network back-up procedures for switches, routers, wireless and network security components. Conducts traffic studies and generates periodic reports on usage, load, volume, service interruptions, intrusions etc.
  • Installs, configures and manages network switches, routers, and other network components.
  • Able to design and engineer structure cabling systems like racking, cabling, fiber/copper plant, power, UPS, grounding and bonding and other utility requirements for data rooms, closets, and data center.
  • Assists in coordinating all network cabling efforts (moves, adds, and changes). Maintains documentation on the fiber cabling plant, horizontal cabling plant, and wireless configuration.
  • Open trouble tickets or new service requests with service providers for data circuits or network equipment and coordinate trouble shooting and follow up with service providers.
  • Manage and be responsible to close calls related to Data Network and its related components in Helpdesk per the department policies.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure, and/or keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Attends meetings as required, and participates on committees as directed.
  • Maintains a positive image when dealing with department personnel and other City of Hope employees.
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

  • BS Engineering or Computer Science. An Associate Degree with five (5) years of relevant experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
  • Three (3) years in network planning, engineering, and support capacity. Familiarity w/Bellcore GRE Requirements a plus.
  • A minimum of three (3) years in networked systems supports including Cisco IOS, Aruba Wireless, Juniper network security components.
  • Hands on experience in enterprise setting with Cisco Routers, Switches, and Aruba Access Points
  • CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification required

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $38.11 - $59.07 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
