Summary
The Department of Pathology is seeking a Healthcare Administrative Manager Intermediate to join the Clinical Pathology Management team. The chosen individual will manage the operational and personnel activities of the Michigan Medicine Histocompatibility and Hematopathology Laboratories. This position will report directly to the Clinical Pathology Operations Director.

Responsibilities*
Project Management and efficiency of the laboratory

In coordination with section medical directors, department, and institutional leaders, prioritize projects based on strategic priorities of the section, department, and institution.
Organized and prioritized approach to managing time-sensitive projects to completion.
Coordinate with the business management team in test marketing and business planning.
Monitor with Administrative Coordinator, Divisional billing, and Revenue Cycle, reimbursement rate on all laboratory completed tests and follow-up.
Review laboratory data and reports to monitor progress of the laboratory and make adjustments as required.
Recommend workflow redesign and reengineering for improved laboratory operation supporting LEAN principles.
Personnel

Day-to-day supervision of laboratory associate manager, supervisors, senior technologists and administration of laboratory.
Evaluation of employee performance and development, including fostering employee engagement, leadership, and responsibility; facilitate communication and conflict resolution. Perform annual senior staff evaluations.
Manage the process of requesting, posting, and hiring new employees, including reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, interviewing candidates.
Monitor students, residents or other trainees and new staff in clinical techniques and assist in the administrative management of one or more clinical areas.
Participate in the resolution of employee discipline, complaints, and grievances.
Review, endorse, and modify the recommended employment, promotions, and salary increases of laboratory staff.
Manage the termination and off-boarding of staff.
Departmental Duties

Supervise and coordinate daily operational lab activities with other lab sections managers.
Attend departmental and hospital administrative meetings, and relay information to supervisors and staff.
Prepare for, and attend scheduled meetings with CP Operations Director along with section directors and CLIA Lab Director.
Participate actively in departmental initiatives as directed.
Operational Duties

Provide day-to-day administrative supervision of leadership team, and laboratory sections/shifts.
Hold routine operational meetings with supervisors and laboratory staff.
Be accessible to staff at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation to resolve technical and/or operational problems in accordance with policies and procedures established either by the laboratory director or technical supervisor.
Keep staff informed of all new policies and modifications.
Work with leadership team and staff to make changes to workflow to achieve maximum productivity and quality.
Serve as resource person for technical and procedural questions from staff and outside institutions.
Oversee the implementation of new and revised policies and procedures in the laboratory.
Establish an atmosphere that satisfies employees physical needs and safety.
Manage IT functions of the laboratory, section on Pathology website, and Pathology Handbook.
Manage budget/finances of the lab

Review ordering of supplies and maintenance of inventory for laboratory operation.
Participate in defining contract terms in collaboration with Lab Director and Procurement Department.
Coordinate purchase of new equipment, supplies & reagents.
QC/QA/Compliance

Monitor lab compliance with CAP, CLIA, ASHI, and other regulatory requirements, and interact with the appropriate internal QA/QC Pathology committees (for example, Pathology Laboratory Communication Committee, Safety committees); assist in the establishment and maintenance of quality control standards and reporting of results.
Manage the QM program for the laboratory, including quarterly submissions of QI metrics.
Monitor integrity of data collection and use of protocols and procedures.
Monitor compliance with University policies and safety programs.
Required Qualifications*
In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Science, equivalent laboratory science, or in a chemical, physical or biological science.
Combination of education, experience, and certification that meets all accreditation requirements according to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA).
Extensive supervisory and management experience.
Thorough knowledge of laboratory regulatory and compliance requirements.
Experience with implementing and monitoring quality assurance plans.
Working knowledge of medical information systems.
Associate Level:

Minimum of 5 years supervisory/management experience in a clinical laboratory discipline.
Intermediate Level:

Minimum of 10 years supervisory/management experience in a clinical laboratory discipline.
