The University Libraries of Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia seeks a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to serve as a service-focused, innovative, and collaborative librarian to support campus open scholarship initiatives. The Open Scholarship Librarian will work in a team-based environment to provide library services to the university campus in addition to serving as a liaison/embedded librarian to the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess an ALA-accredited MLS or an equivalent degree. Essential qualifications include outstanding abilities in presentation, instruction, and both written and oral communication. Additionally, the candidate must showcase proficiency in information literacy skills, including searching and analytical techniques, as well as knowledge of scholarly publishing models. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.

Responsibilities

Manage open scholarship initiatives and efforts
  • Collaborate with partners to expand open access efforts on campus and explore other open research opportunities
  • Serve on the University System of Georgia/GALILEO Georgia Knowledge Repository Committee and as the library champion for Affordable Learning Georgia on the Augusta University campus
  • In collaboration with colleagues, analyze trends in Augusta University scholarship and publishing at large to assist in developing a strategy for supporting and advancing open scholarship

Act as point of contact for scholarly communication activities
  • Maintain the institutional repository Scholarly Commons
  • Provide specialized research services, including in-depth consultations related to copyright and publishing
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in scholarly communication and publishing

Serve as liaison librarian
  • Act as liaison to the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences
  • Participate in the library instruction program by teaching classes in liaison area and other areas as needed
  • Contribute to collection development in liaison area

Research, service, professional development, and student success activities
  • Conduct scholarly research relevant to areas of responsibility or interest and disseminate research by contributing to the professional literature, presenting at conferences, and/or producing other scholarly outputs
  • Engage in service to the libraries, the university, and the profession, primarily through committee work
  • Actively engage in professional development through attendance at conferences, workshops, and/or other learning opportunities
  • Contribute to student success at the university


Required Qualifications
  • American Library Association accredited Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree
  • Excellent presentation and instruction skills
  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated teaching and instruction experience
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholder groups across the university
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities
  • Evidence of strong computer and technology skills
  • Knowledge of scholarly publishing models

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with 3-5 years of experience.

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

- Evidence of ability as a teacher;

- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with institutional repository software (e.g., DSpace, Digital Commons)
  • Knowledge of metadata creation


Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- $73,000- $90,000

Associate Professor- $73,000- $90,000

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.
