Job DescriptionAshland University’s Dwight Schar College of Education is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor in Literacy. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses focused on the Science of Reading. This is a full-time, tenure-track position starting Fall 2024.
Support Ashland’s philosophy of Accent on the Individual.
Teach face-to-face courses that focus on the Science of Reading.
Collaborate with teacher education and literacy faculty in curriculum revisions and continuous
improvement efforts.
Support adjunct faculty around explicit instruction related to the course work focused on the
Science of Reading.
Participate in committee work and service to the College of Education.
Support continuous improvement in the College of Education.
Teach on Ashland’s main campus and other affiliated centers (e.g., Elyria, Columbus), as
necessary.
Conduct other related duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Earned Doctorate in literacy or closely related discipline
Minimum of five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in P-12 classrooms
Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to the Science of Reading
Proof of extended professional learning and/or training in the Science of Reading
Knowledge of the State of Ohio reading/literacy initiatives for P-12 schools and teacher
preparation programs
Preferred Qualifications
Credentials in the Science of Reading
Current professional teaching license/certificate
Experience teaching college-level courses, including experience teaching literacy courses
Supervisory experience with field or clinical experiences in P-12 public school settings
Physical Demands
Ability to teach in a face-to-face classroom environment
Ability to travel to sites for teaching, supervision, and/or meetings
