Job Summary:The Director of Development is a strategic leader responsible for cultivating and strengthening philanthropic relationships to advance the organization's mission. This position will focus on the Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) and Center for Combat Medicine and Battlefield Research (COMBAT). This person will be a thought partner for the Executive Director of MIBH and COMBAT for all fundraising. This person will work with board members, community leaders, and third-party organizations to create experiences that will cultivate major and principal gifts.
About Marcus Institute for Brain Health
The Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a clinical care and research institute for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health (PH) conditions such as post-traumatic stress (PTS), anxiety and depression. The mission of MIBH is to provide in-depth interdisciplinary care to military veterans, first responders, and active service members who are having ongoing symptoms following mild to moderate TBI or psychological symptoms. At the MIBH, we strive to advance training, educational, and research activities in support of our co-located integrated clinical care model.
Center for Combat Medicine and Battlefield Research (COMBAT)
The Center for COMBAT Research aims to turn military medical gains into better health care for all with a mission to save and improve lives on the battlefield and at home. We facilitate the execution of combat and deployment-related medical research by navigating successful relationships with military scientists, clinical investigators, military leaders, and industry to produce successful innovations, material solutions, and high impact knowledge products. Our team leverages over 100 years of combined military experience to address current military medicine research gaps and translate solutions to our local civilian communities. We have three focus areas of research – prehospital care, critical injury and illness, and psychological health and readiness.

The Center for COMBAT Research recognizes the importance of education and mentorship in advancing the next generation of military physicians and researchers.
The Center for COMBAT Research is supported through the CU Chancellor’s Office, the CU School of Medicine and interdisciplinary collaborations between several clinical and research Departments. Through research, education, and collaboration, we are driven to solve the U.S. military’s toughest medical challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Board Development: 20%
Develop and implement strategic plans for engaging the community and stakeholders in support of MIBH and COMBAT through major and principal gifts.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director of MIBH and COMBAT in developing a robust community of volunteers and potential supporters.
Major and Principal Gift Fundraising: 80%
Lead strategy for all major and principal gifts, working closely with organizational leadership to ensure a positive philanthropic experience for current and potential benefactors.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with key philanthropic partners, ensuring their alignment with the organization’s vision.
Partner with third-party organizations and volunteers to maximize philanthropy.
Direct the development of event concepts, messaging, and marketing strategies to maximize attendance and donor engagement.
Engage high-profile individuals and community leaders to serve as event hosts, chairs, and ambassadors, leveraging their networks for fundraising success.
Analyze event outcomes and campaign performance, using insights to inform future strategies and initiatives.
This position requires flexibility in hours, including evenings and weekends for events and meetings.
National travel may be required for partnership development, fundraising events, and conferences.
Work Location:
Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with at least one day on campus and as needed for in-person meetings and events. The employee must be reside in Colorado.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 2-4 years of professional level experience.
Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
