Ball State University Libraries is searching for a customer service- and detail-oriented person to join our committed team in Archives and Special Collections. The Ball State University Libraries’ Archives and Special Collections preserves and provides access to over 1.5 million rare and unique archival materials of enduring research value. Job Function:

Analyze, organize, and describe the local and special archival and manuscript collections according to professional and national standards to provide discovery and access for users; participate in and facilitate the acquisition and digitization of archival materials, including electronic records; provide reference and research service for students, faculty, and researchers; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Advanced degree in library or archival science, history, or related area.

Minimum Experience:

At least one year of experience in archives, library, or related area.

Preferred Experience:

Experience with information technology applications in an archives and/or library environment, including imaging technology and electronic databases; training experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, organize, describe, and preserve local and special archival and manuscript collections in compliance with professional and national standards; create descriptive finding aids for archives, manuscripts, and special collections according to archival guidelines; develop and manage databases and web-based tools to provide discovery and access for learning, teaching, and research.
  • Collaborate with the Digital and Physical Records Archivist, in organizing and preparing archival records, including print, electronic, audio, visual, and moving images, for digitization, access and discovery in the University Libraries' digital repositories; research, create, and record descriptive data for materials to be digitized and born-digital materials; develop and manage databases and web-based tools for access and discovery.
  • Provide reference and research service to students, faculty, staff, and the public; provide specialized instruction to classes on using archives and manuscript resources.
  • Track and record workflows of archival materials for accessioning, processing and development of digital collections and projects; analyze data, conduct statistical analysis, and create administrative summaries and reports.
  • Train and monitor student assistants in processing and preparing, organizing, and digitizing archival materials, including data input.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
