Job Description

The online M.S. program in Criminal Justice at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for two full-time renewable term Assistant Professor positions beginning in academic year 2024-2025. This is a teaching-scholar position with a focus on providing excellence in online teaching and mentoring at the graduate level. The teaching load is 4/4, with additional teaching opportunities in summer. Additionally, part of the teaching load will include one undergraduate, in-person Criminology/Criminal Justice course per year, taught for Sociology (which houses the online M.S. program). This is a non-tenure contract position renewed on a five-year basis, with the opportunity for promotion to the ranks of Associate Professor and Professor with demonstrated time and excellence in the areas of teaching, service, community engagement, and research.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to mentor graduate students and provide service to the University and discipline. About the Online Criminal Justice M.S. Program: OU Online is a dynamic and growing program, serving 4000 students from across the country, with over 55 undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates. The online M.S. in Criminal Justice is housed in the Department of Sociology within the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences. The program consists of 30 credit hours, 12 hours of required core courses (theory, methods, statistics, and a capstone/demonstration project), and 18 hours of electives. All in instruction is online, asynchronous. Most of the students in the program are working professionals in the criminal justice field, looking to gain skills that open pathways for job advancement. OU’s online Criminal Justice M.S. program provides professionals with the ethics, decision-making, and front-line leadership skills they need to thrive as leaders in today’s criminal justice field.

About the Department of Sociology: The OU Sociology Department is home to 19 primary faculty (https://ou.edu/cas/soc/people/faculty), in addition to adjunct and affiliate faculty, over 40 graduate students, and roughly 450 undergraduate students. The unit has a lively intellectual climate with regular research workshops to share methodologies, gather constructive feedback, and advance the discipline. The successful applicant should have earned a PhD (the time of appointment) in Criminology/Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a related discipline. The successful candidate should have experience teaching online, and expertise and interest in teaching core criminal justice graduate-level courses such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Research Methods of Social Research, or Quantitative Research and Analysis, in addition to elective courses such as Program Evaluation, Substance Abuse and Crime, and Law Adjudication.
