Position Description

The Jackson laboratory at Harvard Medical School seeks a highly motivated, responsible and reliable individual to support research in how the immune and nervous systems interact to control mucosal inflammation and cancer. This individual, under minimal direction, will independently perform and/or coordinate a wide range of laboratory research procedures, and administrative task and conduct a variety of complex lab bench work for this project including animal husbandry, genotyping, aiding in tissue and cellular preparations, bacterial cultures and infections, protein and RNA isolation and analysis, immunofluorescent microscopy, flow cytometry, and a variety of other lab techniques. Experience in these lab techniques would be advantageous but not required as training in the lab will be provided.

Lab Management Responsibilities include:

• Ordering and receiving lab supplies.
• Organizing lab meetings and events.
• Managing lab credit card purchases.
• Coordinating and overseeing all general lab consumables.
• Ensuring that all phases of the day-to-day laboratory work comply with relevant regulations and policies, research protocols, health and safety policies at HMS.
• Purchasing and testing new lab equipment and monitoring and maintaining all current lab equipment.
• Will oversee the management of the mouse lab colony.
• Will help the PI with IACUC and COMs amendments.
• Act as one of the lab’s emergency contacts in case of equipment or building failures.
• Processing invoices for the lab.
• Overseeing the correct disposal of biological and chemical waste.
• Have excellent interpersonal skills when communicating with lab members.

Basic Qualifications

College background and 2+ years of experience working in a biology laboratory. Relevant coursework may count toward experience.
 

Additional Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelors preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position. 

Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.
