Assistant Professors of Marine Science, Marine Biology: Nekton Ecology

The Department of Marine Science within the Gupta College of Science at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for two nine-month Assistant Professor tenure track positions beginning in August 2025. Applicants with a Ph.D. in marine science, marine biology, or a related field are invited to apply. The successful candidates will be expected to teach introductory marine science, an upper-level marine biology lecture and laboratory, as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses within the applicants' areas of expertise. Applicants with post-doctoral experience are preferred. We invite applicants from all areas of marine biology that would complement our existing faculty expertise. Applicants with research programs focused on nekton ecology related to fishes and fisheries, sharks, or marine mammals in estuaries and the coastal zone including applied conservation and management issues are especially encouraged. The new faculty members are expected to develop viable externally funded local and regional research programs that actively involve both undergraduate and graduate students.

The Gupta College of Science includes an emerging Engineering Science program and provides vessel support for teaching and research ranging from small skiffs to a 50-ft. aluminum vessel with an A-frame. The Burroughs and Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies within the Gupta College of Science also offers the potential for collaboration with faculty engaged in related issues. The University manages the Waites Island Anne Tilghman Boyce Coastal Reserve, an undeveloped complex of ocean frontage, fresh and saltwater marshes, tidal creeks, and upland forests, that provides teaching and research opportunities.

Duties
Teaches students in the classroom and/or laboratory.
Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar
Conducts research to create and add to knowledge in a field, including the advancement of new theories and principles to improve educational effectiveness. Trains students in related research techniques.
Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual. Serves as the primary academic advisor for marine science students as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
