The Division of Information Technology is the backbone of Augusta University. IT manages all Augusta University systems, networks, data, and applications while safeguarding our digital information. IT strives to provide stable, reliable, and secure IT access for students, faculty, staff, clinicians, patients, researchers, and visitors. As the central IT service provider for Augusta University and many of AU Health's IT services, IT is responsible for Augusta University's most critical IT resources including the wired and wireless network; email, telephone, and online collaboration services; information security; software licensing; and a host of other systems and applications.
Job Summary
The Cybersecurity Engineer position is responsible for supporting Augusta University. Including AU Health and all related affiliates, in the areas of cybersecurity, safeguarding the organization's networks, systems, and sensitive data. Helps to design, implement, and support Enterprise Security tools and programs with a focus on networking Infrastructure. Provide technical guidance and hands-on engineering to ensure security tools are implemented to support security objectives and act as a Network Security Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the organization. The Cybersecurity Engineer will be an active member of design and build IT projects, steering network configurations and services such as Network Access Control, Network Authentication, routing and switching, firewalls, segmentation, and overall network architecture towards industry-leading security. Additionally, they will provide daily, ongoing oversight of network security tools and their operation, including the security impact of proposed modifications, additions, and technology implementation/refresh operations. The Cybersecurity Engineer will also be asked to perform investigative research and analysis to troubleshoot, identify, resolve, and report complex security issues.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
ASSIST NETWORKING ENGINEER'S IN THE DESIGN: Assist networking engineers in the design and implementation of network gear, protocols, routes, and firewall rules, ensuring the environment is reliable without compromising security.
PROVIDE COMPLETE ENGINEERING, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE: Provide complete engineering, installation, and maintenance of security applications and solutions as they pertain to network security and monitoring.
DEVELOP NETWORK STANDARDS: Develop, review, monitor, and assist in the enforcement of networking standards.
PERFORM NETWORK SECURITY MONITORING: Perform network security monitoring, security event triage, and incident response, coordinate with other team members, management to document and report incidents.
ASSIST IN TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEMS FOR SECURITY SYSTEMS: Assist in troubleshooting problems for security systems and assist other teams in troubleshooting.
OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Higher education degree. Direct work experience with one or more cloud service platforms. Familiarity with change management process. Familiarity with healthcare and education-relevant regulatory legislation and standards for the protection of health information and patient and student privacy.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Knowledge of network attack and defense tactics.
Knowledge of computer system support functions.
Knowledge of Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements.
Knowledge of the OSI model, routing protocols, and subnetting.
Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles used to manage risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information or data.
Knowledge of security systems, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, anti-virus software', log management, authentication systems, content filtering, etc.
Knowledge of information security program management and project management principles and techniques.
Knowledge of complex multi-user network systems utilizing PCs, routers, switches, and servers.
Knowledge of complex information technology security infrastructure hardware and software.
Knowledge of complex software applications running on LANS, PCs, and file servers.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization, and customer service skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and through formal presentations at the technical and non-technical level.
Proven ability to develop an effective, collaborative working relationship with a variety of representative groups with potentially dissimilar priorities.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday-Friday (work outside normal business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B16
Salary: $95,200/ annually - $105,000/ annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
