What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an R&D S&E Science and Engineering Team Lead to provide leadership and oversight of the 07636-2 Electronics Fabrication Apprenticeship Program. This position provides onsite leadership to ensure apprentices are provided the appropriate training from mentoring and subject matter experts, successfully progress through the critical skills areas in On-The-Job Training, Related Instruction, Observational Tours in developing and achieving stability in proficiency in the Electronic Fabrication Trade Curriculum identified within Sandia\'s Certified Advanced Manufacturing Trades Training Program AMTTP. You will foster work force development, champion workforce diversity, ensure safe and secure work practices while modeling integrity and technical interface with ND and SPP customers mission owners across the complex.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Manage 10-20 represented & non-represented personnel that perform the day-to-day fabrication of electronic assemblies, electromechanical hardware, complex cabling, magnetic components, rack systems, tester fabrication, population of printed wire assemblies PWA\'s and quality testing.
  • Provide leadership for ensuring hardware and component quality levels are achieved from developed hands-on applied proficiency skills in balancing multiple tasks, mentoring, setting expectations for apprentices meeting mission deliverables in the areas of security, safety, quality, cost and schedule.
  • Oversee the continuous improvements and enhancements of the Electronic Fabrication training metrics for the Advanced Manufacturing Trades Training Program (AMTTP) to support current customer base as well as identifying new techniques, technologies, requiring additional or advanced training to support Sandia\'s challenging programs.
  • Participate in the recruitment of new apprenticeship talent and recruiting activities.
  • Cultivate and build strategic partnerships with a wide and technically diverse customer base across the laboratory and sister National Labs in establishing technical work to be executed within the department.
  • Generate, perform represented performance reviews, and team evaluations, teaming with the manager in updating and configuration of PHS, OP\'s and Work Planning & control WP&C documentation.
  • Be accountable as a WP&C Work Planner to ensure work acceptance, cost estimations, procurements, planning of large projects, engineering support, customer interface, work schedules to customers Security, Safety, Quality requirements.
  • Handle classified, working within a VTR, CAS experience alternate.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$127,900 - $217,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate\'s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Advanced degree (MS) in electrical or mechanical engineering plus 5 years of experience; or equivalent (BS plus 9 years of experience).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q security clearance
  • Technical understanding of electrical schematics, mechanical drawings to establish formal agreed upon schedules, evaluation of risk, quality, security, safety for acceptance of ND and SPP program work issuance assignments to team members and apprentices.
  • Working Knowledge of AutoCad or Solidworks drawing platforms
  • The ability to understand, apply and lead hands on fabrication processes for electronic and electromechanical components and assemblies in a prototype/developmental and production environment.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Nuclear Weapons Engineering & hardware assembly experience
  • Master\'s degree in a relevant STEM discipline, Mechanical or Electrical
  • Prior experience working in a fast-pace, agile and dynamic electronics research prototype and production environment.
  • Prior experience as a team lead, manager, or technical program lead in mechanical or electrical hardware assembly.
  • Experience with product realization processes, ISO compliance, lessons learned and process development.
  • Demonstrated techniques in high problem solving and the ability to manage budget/cost schedules meeting safety and quality requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.
  • A commitment to a culture of security and safety.

About Our Team:

The Electronic Fabrication Department 07636 & 07636-1 is responsible for providing Sandia with agile and rapid manufacturing technologies for prototyping electronics, systems and packaging through capabilities that include product design, fabrication, inspection, testing and installation. We evolve product designs to enable product realization in a timely and cost -effective manner in support of Sandia\'s ND and SPP Programs and our external Nuclear Weapons Complex\'s. We additionally execute the Electronic Fabrication Apprenticeship Trades Program being a State Certified Program under Electromechanical Fabrication Trades within the Advanced Manufacturing Trades Training Program AMTTP, Organization 07636-2 Apprenticeship program continues to champion, mentor talent in critical skills areas since March of 1960 to provide highly trained electromechanical fabricators being responsive to Sandia missions. We are an onsite department, performing activity level work in complex cabling, magnetics, electronic enclosures, tester fabrication, PWB/PWA\'s, Surface Mount Technologies, Quality & Testing having an agile engineering design team of subject matter expertise supporting our hardware deliverables.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
