Primary Purpose of PositionThe Department of Mathematics and Statistics at North Carolina A&T State University, College of Science and Technology, invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Statistics. The appointment is expected to be at the assistant or associate professor level but an appointment at the full professor level may be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. The Department encourages persons from all areas of statistics to apply but is particularly interested in areas of statistical deep learning, scientific machine learning, quantum machine learning, AI and large language models, image and textual mining, computational statistics, or high-performance analytics. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics seeks candidates to join a growing Department with interactive faculty.
The successful applicant for the position will be expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to engage in culturally responsive teaching, teach statistics, data science or AI courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community.
The ideal candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous research program in statistics and data science, publish articles in peer-reviewed journals, secure extramural funding, and direct the research activities of PhD and MS students in statistics, data science & analytics, quantum computing, AI and related areas. Mentoring undergraduate students is also expected. A candidate whose teaching and research efforts promote the mission of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology as well as the University is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the mathematics, sciences and technology areas is encouraged.

North Carolina A & T State University is a public, doctoral/research and 1890 land-grant university that enrolls over 14,000 students. The College of Science and Technology enrolls over 2,300 students. It is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in science and technology education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and the Ph.D. Program of Applied Science Technology. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is an academic unit within the College of Science and Technology, seeking to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an inviting environment that inspires them to become leaders in their fields and areas of expertise. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers degree programs in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics & Data Science at the B.S. level, Applied Mathematics, and Data Analytics at the M.S. level, and a doctoral concentration in Data Science & Analytics within the multidisciplinary PhD program in Applied Science and Technology. The Department also offers a minor program in Applied Mathematics, and an undergraduate certificate program in Data Science and Analytics, and is a major contributor to an online graduate certificate program in Data Analytics offered by the Graduate College.
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics or Data Science, experience and track record indicating excellent potential to conduct research and advise students, and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department.
For the position of assistant professor, applicants must show strong research potential and commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and student success. Research productivity beyond the doctoral dissertation is expected.
For an associate professorship, applicants should show evidence of excellence in teaching, learning and student success, and have an established research reputation, including success in securing extramural funding, record of publications and supervision of graduate students

Preference given to those whose research expertise and interests whose research expertise and interests lie in the areas of statistical deep learning, scientific machine learning, quantum machine learning, AI and large language models, image and textual mining, computational statistics, or high-performance analytics.
For the position of assistant professor, applicants must show strong research potential and commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and student success. Research productivity beyond the doctoral dissertation is expected. Postdoctoral research experience or equivalent industrial experience and strong statistical data analysis and programming skills are desirable. University teaching experience is a plus.
