The Upward Bound Math Science Education Specialist will provide support services to assist low-income first-generation high school students in the Upward Bound Math Science Pre-College Program. The services provided will assist students to recognize and develop their potential to excel in an academic field.

As the Upward Bound Math Science Education Specialist, you will:
Advise and encourage students to pursue post-secondary degrees in a STEM field, and ultimately careers in the STEM profession.
Conduct and coordinate a series of individual or group experiences addressing the project’s funded objectives.
Assist with the implementation of the summer program experience.
Work directly with school staff and families to complete the process to provide educational support.
Recruit and preform assessments for the Math Science TRIO program.
Weekend and evening work activities required.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, community services, human development, or related field.
One year of experience and/or training in providing educational learning activities – improve academic performance, organize educational planning, and/or preparation for enrollment in post-secondary education, and/or similar experience considered.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience working with adolescents.
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
Fluent in a second language other than English.
TRIO experience and/or experience working with unrepresented populations.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the needs of first generation low-income and individual differences.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with high school aged youth: experience in working with school staff, and parents/guardians.
Experience driving 12 passenger vans.
