Job Description
The Emerging Materials program in the Materials Science Division of Argonne
National Laboratory is seeking motivated, self-starting postdoctoral scientist
candidates to fill an anticipated open position in quantum materials discovery and
science. The role entails experimental research focused on designing, growing, and characterizing bulk solid state inorganic materials and crystals in one or more areas of correlated electron oxides (specifically, nickelates), topological materials and superconductors, and quantum magnets. The project will involve both laboratory work and facilities-based experiments at x-ray and/or neutron facilities.
Position Requirements
- The successful candidate will have earned a Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, or materials science where they gained substantial experience in the synthesis and
- characterization of the structural, electronic, and/or magnetic properties of inorganic quantum materials, including air-sensitive compounds. (PhD must have been received within the last 3 years or upcoming year)
- Extensive experience in crystal growth using various techniques (especially floating zone growth, but also flux growth) and proficiency in the measurement and analysis of x-ray powder and single crystal diffraction data are key skills for this position.
- Familiarity with PPMS and/or MPMS measurement platforms is highly desirable.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
