Job Description

Department overview:
With 31 full-time faculty members and 241 majors, the Department of Writing Studies (DWS) houses two degree programs, English Teaching and Professional & Public Writing, as well as the Boise State Writing Project, Boise State Writing Center, and First Year Writing Program.

DWS has built a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and creativity. Faculty in the department lead and participate in initiatives across campus and in the community. This kind of community-engaged work gives students opportunities to engage in hands-on, meaningful learning and apply their coursework to real-world experiences. Colleagues support one another in thinking through student-centered approaches and innovating in their practice.

The English Teaching program prepares students for English Language Arts certification in grades 6-12. Students learn through methods courses, field-based courses, and mentorship in local classrooms. Through these experiences, students learn to create dialogic classrooms that value young people’s languages, literacies, and lives.
