Intern, Business Undergrad Year Round - Human Resources / Student Intern Programs, CA Onsite
Sandia's Talent Acquisition Team is seeking a year-round Human Resources Intern to support the daily operations of our California Student Intern Programs team. This position is a great opportunity for a student to gain real-world experience in Human Resources and partner on initiatives that dive into areas such as Talent Acquisition, Onboarding, and Engagement.
The Talent Acquisition Team at large provides support for staffing, recruiting, HR administration, and the Student Intern Program at the CA site. In the Student Intern Program, you will work with a small team of HR professionals to create an exceptional experience for Interns across multiple disciplines for our California Sandia site.
On any given day you may support the following:
Talent Acquisition and Onboarding: Work with others to hire and onboard Intern talent. Create and maintain employee records. Convert physical records/forms to electronic format. Coordinate and execute Intern new hire orientation (NEO). Conduct research and analysis on HR-related topics.
Event Planning: Provide support to the Student Intern Program Team with various projects relating to Intern programming and community building for in person and or on site/ hybrid Intern experiences. Support and participate in on-site events throughout the summer (May – August) in Livermore, CA which will likely require you being on site at least 3 days per week. Support ad-hoc on-site events throughout the year (September – April).
Communications: Develop innovative and relevant content for the Intern Blog and LinkedIn Student Group. Research and work with the team on developing articles for publication on the intern website and assist with aspects of marketing development/ production including storyboarding, camera work, and scriptwriting for the Student Intern Program.
IT: Have familiarity with programs such as Windows, Office/Microsoft 365 (TEAMS, PPT, EXCEL). Must be able to navigate TEAMS, monitor meeting chat tool, record presentations, and be comfortable presenting in a variety of venues to not only interns but to Hiring Managers and staff as well. Some daily tasks will include responding to entity email requests, making basic calendar updates and sending reminders.
Our Human Resource Intern will be working with a team of professionals that will allow space for creativity to share intern recommendations with our team and HR leadership, giving our intern a way to put their ideas into action!
Salary Range:
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S. citizen, asylee, refugee, or lawful permanent resident of the U.S.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
- Ability to convey a positive and professional image to internal and external stakeholders
- Experience creating presentations and designing marketing material
- Experience with social media and/or career platforms
- Ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills
- Exhibits exceptional verbal, written and interactive communication skills
- Preference will be given to those who can remain with the Program for a full year or longer
- Ability to work on site at least 3 days a week (May/June – August) and 1 day a week (January – May)
- Strong interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources or related field

Security Clearance:
This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico need to pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
If hired without a clearance and it subsequently becomes necessary to obtain and maintain one for the position, or you bid on positions that require a clearance, a pre-processing background review may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation. Applicants for a DOE security clearance need to be U.S. citizens. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Members of the workforce (MOWs) hired at Sandia who require uncleared access for greater than 179 days during their employment, are required to go through the Uncleared Personal Identity Verification (UPIV) process. Access includes physical and/or cyber (logical) access, as well as remote access to any NNSA information technology (IT) systems. UPIV requirements are not applicable to individuals who require a DOE personnel security clearance for the performance of their SNL employment or to foreign nationals. The UPIV process will include the completion of a USAccess Enrollment, SF-85 (Questionnaire for Non-Sensitive Positions) and OF-306 (Declaration of for Federal Employment). An unfavorable UPIV determination will result in immediate retrieval of the SNL issued badge, removal of cyber (logical) access and/or removal from SNL subcontract. All MOWs may appeal the unfavorable UPIV determination to DOE/NNSA immediately. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the MOW may try to go through the UPIV process one year after the decision date.

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
