Position Description:

The Kent School of Social Work invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer (PTL) teaching positions in the following program areas:

  • BSW Program

  • MSSW Program

Salary based on a per credit hour value of course taught (Typically a 3-credit hour course)

We offer courses in traditional and online settings.


Master's degree in Social Work required plus one to two years post-masters experience for all practice courses and field liaison work.


This is a pool position. Resumes will be screened as need arises. Applicants will be considered as openings become available for teaching in Fall, Spring and Summer semesters and the Winter Session. This advertisement is effective for six months after the date it is first posted. If you are not hired during that time you will need to reapply. Instructors are expected to attend orientation/trainings, submit course syllabus, order textbooks or other reading materials, provide developmentally meaningful feedback, present engaging learning experiences, respond to students in a timely manner, communicate regularly with designated course chair, maintain collegial and respectful relations with members of the UofL community and external stakeholders, and submit course data and final grades within university deadlines, and comply with other requests as a part-time lecturer.

In addition, to the resume/CV, applicants should respond to the following four prompts. Discuss the strategies that you think work best in facilitating learning among students in higher education?

  • Describe the optimal relationship between students and instructor.

  • Please describe how you work to create classroom environment (online and/or face to face) that is welcoming and inclusive? Please provide a specific example.

  • What methods might you use to monitor and adjust your teaching/instruction to increase learning of all students?

  • Tell us about one or two specific things that you have done to promote diversity, equity and/or inclusion in your teaching (if you have not taught previously, what are some things that you could do to promote diversity, equity and/or inclusion)

Overview of the University

The 287-acre Belknap Campus is three miles from downtown Louisville and houses 7 of the university's 12 colleges and schools. The 243-acre Shelbyhurst Campus is located in eastern Jefferson County.
