Position Description:

The Unit Specialist III position will support the success and achievement of Student Wellbeing initiatives within the Student Affairs Office. This position will convene stakeholder groups and lead collaboration with key stakeholders and organizations to facilitate the implementation, support, and development of strategies for the Student Wellbeing initiative, the JED Campus Initiative, the Expressive Activity Initiative, the Wellbeing Advisory Group, and the HSC/Belknap Wellbeing partnership. This position will also provide executive administrative and operational high-level support for the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs for Student Wellbeing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generates ideas and solutions to facilitate the collaboration with the AVP, Student Wellbeing to develop campus-wide Student Wellbeing initiatives and goals. This will involve strategically engaging campus experts and existing wellness programs to facilitate the creation and shaping of the Wellbeing initiative and to obtain buy-in. Address progressively more complex issues pertaining to student Wellbeing.

  • Generates ideas and solutions to the collaborative process to develop student engagement strategies for utilization and marketing of Student Wellbeing initiatives. With minimal supervision, address issues and challenges pertinent to utilization and marketing of Student Wellbeing initiatives.

  • Serve as back up to the Administrative Specialist in Campus Recreation in monitoring the Speech and Distribution of Literature Policy requests, updating Speech and Distribution of Literature Policy calendar, and assisting with procedures related to such requests.

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing student wellness programs, initiatives, and activities

  • Support overall communication of Student Wellbeing groups (Campus Health, Campus Recreation, Student Counseling Center, and the Disability Resource Center) ensuring timely communication of pertinent Student Wellbeing needs and overall administrative coordination of the unit

  • Maintain appropriate documentation (ie: meeting minutes, outreach efforts) for Student Wellbeing initiatives

  • Manage a series of recurring meetings and communications for long-term standing committees to include JED Campus, the Student Wellbeing group, and the Expressive Activity Group. Facilitate the setup of the meeting space relative to technology and audio-visual needs, distribute electronic agendas in advance, and attend meetings as needed to take minutes.

  • Serve on division-level committees. Conduct special studies and research to help inform decisions, and make recommendations as needed.

  • Provide executive administrative and operational high-level support for the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. Confidentiality, professionalism, and team orientation are critical to the success of this position.

  • Manage and facilitate on-going and continuous updates and revisions to the AVP's calendar. Schedule meetings and reserve space for small group meetings, committees, and stakeholder groups.

  • Compose correspondence and prepare replies; plan, initiate and complete various tasks related to administrative and operational issues

  • Respond independently to a variety of incoming requests/issues, prioritize and determine appropriate action to be taken and follow through to completion.

  • Make travel arrangements for the Assistant Vice President.

  • Provide assistance and support to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs with special projects, including but not limited to the annual Wellbeing Group staff retreat. Compile information and statistics for various reports including but not limited to the department annual report.

  • Provide assistance and support to the Assistant Vice President by creating reports for high-level matters and university wide committees. Serve as copy editor for the Assistant Vice President.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Business, English, or related field and five years of related experience on a college campus.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot problems, and meet deadlines.

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Good time management skills.

  • Ability to successfully navigate an online record keeping system.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Ability to take notes/minutes and draft reports.

  • Experience working with a diverse student population and demonstrated abilities to work effectively with colleagues in offices across the campus.

  • Experience in utilizing collaborative skills to meet goals

  • Experience in convening meetings with stakeholders to facilitate collaboration

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
