The Medical College of Georgia, Division of Cardiology at Augusta University is current seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. The faculty member will support the Advanced Heart Failure service, a rapidly growing academic program evaluating and managing patients with advanced heart failure (HF), and our newly certified Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) program. The faculty member will support the growth of the MCS program and our goal of beginning a new cardiac transplant program in the near future. Our Advanced HF Program includes a Shock and ECMO Team and multiple devices for both temporary and durable mechanical support including Impella devices, IABP, ECMO and Heart Mate 3. Additional responsibilities will include an active role in the new cardiac care unit and inpatient services, teaching cardiovascular fellows, and an opportunity to pursue clinical research. The candidate should have a strong interest in patient care and clinical outcomes, and experience working with multi-disciplinary teams. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
1. Participate in out-patient heart failure clinical practice at the downtown practice site and satellite locations. Staff Fellow's clinic on an as-needed basis.
2. Staff the Inpatient CVICU Service and Inpatient Heart Failure Consult Service; share fairly in the staffing of these services with colleagues.
3. Participate in the echo lab reading pool as interests and training allow.
4. Perform/interpret various procedures (i.e., right heart catheterizations, nuclear stress tests, cardiopulmonary exercise tests) as interests and training allow.
5. Participate in night and weekend CVICU and VAD call coverage at all hospitals and in-patient cardiology services as needed and similar to your colleagues.
6. Generate work RVU's at or above the 65th%ile for a non-invasive cardiologist as reported by the UHC Faculty Practice Solution Center and adjusted for your assigned clinical FTE.
7. Participate in the teaching activities of the Division in support of Phase I, II and III medical students; residents primarily from the Department of Medicine but also from other Departments; and the training of Cardiology fellows. We encourage you to participate in teaching pre-clinical medical students; salary support associated with these activities would further reduce your clinical effort and RVU target. Attend at least 70% of the cardiovascular service line Grand Rounds and as many teaching conferences as your schedule permits. You will be expected to participate in mentoring fellows and providing supervision and oversight to those preparing conference presentations.
8. Actively participate in division decision-making, including attendance at a minimum of 70% of division faculty meetings. In addition, you will be expected to help with various marketing and outreach activities which may include short trips to meet with referring physicians, groups or hospitals. Clinic schedules can be adjusted to accommodate these activities.
9. Participate in scholarly activities, such as clinical/translational research in an area of your choosing, publication of case reports, review articles, etc. If salary support is derived from research grants, your allocated clinical effort will be reduced commensurate with the increased research effort. Support a productive program of scholarly activities amongst trainees and junior faculty.
Required Qualifications
MD/DO or equivalent-Board eligible/Board certified-HF fellowship training
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
