Facilities Services Division provides quality customer service by maintaining a safe, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing environment in which students, faculty, and staff can function and accomplish their educational objectives and by supporting a patient care culture that continuously improves. Facilities Services' responsibilities include Interior and Exterior Facilities Support, Construction, Space Management, and Environmental Services.
Job Summary
The Grounds Keeper maintains and beautifies grounds, maintains grounds equipment, set ups, and performs waste management.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintains Ground Covers, Shrubs, Trees, and Turf Grass
Prunes shrubs and trees; mows lawns with proper equipment. Collects and removes lawn cuttings and debris.
Line trims around signs, trees, valve boxes and edges along walks, curbs, and beds
Controls weeds manually and with the application of mulch and chemical herbicides to bed areas.
Applies fertilizer to shrubs and trees. Hand waters new plants and trees
Inspects lawns and shrub beds prior to mowing or pruning for obstacles such as debris, irrigation heads, rocks, limbs, valve boxes, etc
Maintains Grounds Equipment
Performs and records routine maintenance on equipment (Oil change, filter change, blade replacement,
lubricating trimmers, etc.)
Cleans equipment after each use
Notifies crew leader and supervisor of any performance/safety issues
Operates Vehicles and Equipment
Checks oil and fluid levels prior to starting up equipment
Cleans vehicles (interior and exterior)
Operate vehicles and tractors safely
Performs Waste Management
Cleans and empties waste containers
Removes litter from campus grounds, parking lots and streets
Removes chewing gum from sidewalks and porches
Assists Coworkers With Event Setups
Completes work orders and assignments for special events.
Assists with setup and removal of tents
Assists with preparation of location for events.
Provides assistance in removing trash and cleaning up after events
Cleans and Organizes Grounds Warehouse
Sweeps floor and removes debris
Keeps tools and equipment in good condition and stored properly
Returns flammable product containers to fire proof storage cabinets
Safeguards and secures grounds equipment
Performs Related Work as Required
Wears uniform as outlined in policy and maintains good hygiene
Treats students, coworkers, supervisors, faculty, and visitors with respect
Assists coworkers with other assignments such as pressure washing, weed and pest control.
Transports equipment, picks up supplies, and hauls yard debris off campus when needed
Performs any other duties and assignments as instructed by the supervisor
Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization or one year of experience in a similar position in a commercial, hospital, or industrial environment; Valid driver's license required to operate golf carts and vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of experience in grounds maintenance, or equivalent training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE: Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the grounds trade. Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the grounds trade.
SKILLS: Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the grounds trade. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
ABILITIES: Must be able to lift/carry 75 lbs. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must have a current driver's license to operate golf carts and vehicles. Must be able to work independently and as a team member. Must be able to work well with co-workers, supervisors, and faculty.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days: Monday-Friday
Pay Band: B1
Salary : $15.00/hourly
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment
