Job PurposeTennessee Tech’s College of Arts & Sciences is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for a 9-month contract as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology in Cell Biology with a focus on Human Health. The anticipated start date for this position will be August 2025.
The Department of Biology offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Wildlife and Fisheries Science and a Master of Science degree in Biology. A Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Biology is offered through the College of Interdisciplinary Studies. The Department of Biology is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that values both research and teaching. Resources available to faculty include dedicated and collaborative research space in the Laboratory Science Commons (a new 160,000 square foot teaching and research facility), equipment for molecular biology, BSL-2 laboratory, and shared tissue culture and microscope facilities. Tennessee Tech is conveniently located in Cookeville, between Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. The campus is in close proximity to numerous state parks and natural areas.

Essential Functions
We seek a cell biologist with a focus in human health capable of teaching cell biology and coordinating cell biology labs, as well as upper division health science courses in the candidate’s area of specialization (such as histology, developmental biology, neurobiology, or other human health related courses). Other essential functions include developing an externally funded research program, advising undergraduate and graduate students, and directing thesis research of M.S. and/or Ph.D. level graduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in an area applicable to cell biology or cell sciences. Applicant must be authorized to work in the United States without the University’s sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous university-level teaching experience and demonstrated record of publications and successful grantsmanship. Research specialty is open and should complement those of current faculty. The candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to cell biology and human health and to undergraduate teaching. The candidate will have an ability to teach cell biology, and advanced courses in cell biology related to human health, potential to develop a funded research program, and potential to serve as advisor to undergraduate and graduate students and potential to advise cell biology or health sciences students.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Commensurate with education and experience. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2025.
