Description:Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Biochemistry at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin in July 2025. We seek candidates who are committed to (1) excellence in teaching, (2) active scholarship including undergraduate researchers, and (3) service to the College and community.
The Biochemistry Program is supported by the Departments of Biology and Chemistry, providing majors with excellent preparation for employment or advanced degrees. The new faculty member will support majors in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, and related fields, through engaging teaching, innovative research, and supportive mentoring.
Responsibilities:
Teaching: Primary teaching duties include Biochemistry lecture and laboratory courses. Secondary teaching duties may include general or advanced courses in biology or chemistry, based on the candidate's expertise and needs of the departments. Participation in the College's core curriculum by teaching in the January Term and/or the Collegiate Seminar Program is also expected.
Scholarship: The new faculty member is expected to establish a vibrant research program that emphasizes collaboration with undergraduate student researchers (in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or a related field), and is sustainable in a liberal arts environment.
Service: The new faculty member is expected to contribute to the Program, School, College, and community in many ways, including student advising, grant writing, curriculum innovation, committee work, and outreach. Support of our diverse student body, including contribution to ongoing and future initiatives that aim to increase inclusivity in the sciences, is also expected.
Mission: The new faculty member is expected to contribute to the mission in alignment with the Saint Mary's College Transformation 2028 strategic priorities and as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, and interdisciplinary programming.

Qualifications:

• 
  Minimum: By time of appointment, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline.

  Preferred: Prior experience in terms of teaching and/or postdoctoral research is preferred; however, the search committee will consider any evidence that demonstrates a candidate's potential for excellence in teaching and research in a liberal arts environment.
