Job Description:The Financial Coordinator is responsible for high-level support to the Department Manager and Grants and Financial Manager in coordinating day to day departmental functions, including all financial aspects of the department’s many grant, gift and operating accounts, as well as complex residency agreements. The Financial Coordinator serves as a resource and researcher to resolve requests, problems and questions regarding spending on accounts, credit card purchases and study participant payments. In addition, they will assist in executing and developing the departmental internal processes and procedures and is relied upon to provide expert policy guidance. This position is responsible for establishing department contracts/independent consultant agreements and space and operations planning. The Financial Coordinator serves as the department expert for the Brown Contract Management System, professional service agreement policies and procedures and the Division contracts, policies and procedures, and plays an integral role in the coordination of finance and grant management related activities. This role assumes responsibility for reviewing the requested contractor services and determining which contract will be utilized. This position interacts with offices across the University including the Office of Sponsored Projects, Controller’s Office, Cashiers Office and BioMed Facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required: Bachelor’s degree
1-2 years of financial and budget experience, preferably in an academic/research setting
Excellent administrative and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize own workload or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Competencies

Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software applications required; Word and Excel required. Workday experience preferred
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Organized and detailed oriented
Ability to understand allowable and unallowable experiences based on each grant parameters and guide the PIs in that regard.
Excellent communication and customer service skills, plus ability to maintain confidentiality
