College/Department Information
The Institutional Review Board Office ensures the research goals of the Augusta University enterprise are met, while protecting human subjects involved in research and verifying the enterprise meets compliance standards. The IRB Office also serves as the central contact for facilitating the goals of the Enterprise Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). Our office provides: Administrative support for the internal IRBs and a liaison for the external IRBs; Monitoring and oversight for all IRB approved studies; Education and training for human research investigators, staff, and IRB members.
Job Summary
This position supports the IRB Office by conducting high quality and thorough reviews of Institutional Review Board (IRB) external protocol submissions for research involving human subjects where AU serves as the Reviewing IRB or for studies under the purview of an External IRB to include the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Provide preliminary reviews of protocol submissions under the purview of an external IRB to assess completeness, compliance and coherence of materials.
Ensures timely completion of external reviews in accordance with established standards for turnaround on protocols submitted by investigators.
Preparation and Routing of Materials for External Protocols.
Draft correspondence to investigators related to IRB release of Externally Reviewed Submissions.
Investigate questions and advise and assist investigators on matters relating to external protocol submissions and maintenance over the lifecycle of the research and other human research subjects' requirements.
Assist with the maintenance of IRB records in accordance with Federal and State regulations and Institutional policies within procedural timeframe.
Develop and facilitate quality improvement and outreach activities including maintaining AAHRPP accreditation, Conferences, Community Engagement Events and IRB Member retreats.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with one to two years of experience or knowledge directly related to IRB issues and human research protections (typical experience might include ethics, clinical trial performance, or experience in an academic IRB).
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, experience in Community Engagement Initiatives and event planning.
Certification as an IRB Coordinator, IRB Manager, or IRB professional OR ability to obtain in 1-2 years.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Detailed knowledge of applicable regulations related to the IRB. Thorough knowledge of human subject research including federal, state and institutional policies, procedures, regulations and guidance to fully protect human subjects and/or human derived materials, such as tissues, cells, medical records, etc. Proficient in DocuSign, Microsoft Office, and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong planning, organization, negotiation, and team building skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to function independently and as a team member. Ability to establish rapport and trust with research team members, including physicians, nurses, and other staff and faculty.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Pay Band: B9
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
