Clinical Laboratory Scientist III (Per Diem) - Microbiology

We are seeking a per diem professional to join our Microbiology department. In this role, you will prepare specimens for analysis and perform waived, moderate, or high-complexity clinical laboratory procedures. All work will be conducted in compliance with written SOPs and regulatory standards, including FACT, AABB, ACHI, CAP, FDA, and Joint Commission requirements. Responsibilities include assisting in the training of students and staff, developing analytical and troubleshooting skills, and building regulatory compliance expertise. You will work under the authorization of the Laboratory Director in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988, CFR Section 493.1445(a).

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Perform and report clinical laboratory procedures, including waived, moderate, and high-complexity tests, while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain knowledge of specimen preparation, processing techniques, and automated/manual testing procedures in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct quality control measures, including calibrations, preventive maintenance, and data review, while supporting Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems, assist colleagues with complex issues, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Develop, validate, and document standard operating procedures, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in staff training, cross-training, inspections, and internal/external audits to uphold laboratory standards and accreditation compliance.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 3 years as a certified or licensed clinical laboratory scientist
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) licensure

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $51.24 - $81.98 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
