Job Description
The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Systems Section of the Transportation and Power Systems (TAPS) Division at Argonne National Laboratory has an immediate opening for a research engineer/scientist. The successful candidate will engage in programs involving expertise in thermal-hydraulics modeling, chemical reaction engineering, electrochemical systems, system analysis, and advanced energy conversion systems for stationary and transportation applications. The candidate will work in developing analytical techniques and software relevant to ongoing programs in fuel cells for heavy-duty applications, hydrogen production by electrolysis, hydrogen storage and hydrogen transmission; interpreting analytical and experimental results; relating them to physical phenomena and engineering; and preparing progress reports, participating in and making technical presentations to the technical community.
Position Requirements
PhD or equivalent in chemical or mechanical engineering, or an associated field.
1-3 years of experience after PhD.
Knowledge of chemical and thermal processes.
Knowledge of electrochemical systems, components and materials.
Knowledge of analyses of components and energy conversion systems.
Knowledge of computational techniques and numerical methods.
Knowledge of computer simulation and data analysis.
Knowledge of C/C++ language and parallel programming with MPI.
Background in modeling of engineering systems.
Expertise in high performance computing (HPC) software platforms.
Ability to develop, optimize, test and run large-scale parallel applications on HPC systems.
Skills in using computer software such as COMSOL, Matlab, Simulink, Python and Excel.
Ability to collaborate with other staff inside and outside Argonne.
Skilled oral and written communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organization.
Ability to publish papers in technical journals.
Ability to present at conferences, workshops and review meetings.
