A Researcher position in neuroscience/gene therapy is available in Dr. Mariajose Metcalfe’s research group at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, within the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center (KSCIRC). The Metcalfe Lab focuses on innovative approaches to promote axonal regeneration following spinal cord injury (SCI), with an emphasis on understanding sex differences and late-onset effects. Our research uses viral vector approaches and other molecular techniques to manipulate genes and proteins that support recovery. The Researcher will contribute to the team’s mission by assisting with surgeries, post-surgical care, drug delivery, behavioral assessments, and histology in rodent models of SCI, as well as performing a variety of molecular and cellular techniques. Our mission is to drive research that could lead to therapeutic interventions for individuals affected by SCI.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate research activities, schedule work flow and organize personnel for experimental procedures.
Plan, implement, and evaluate research project components.
Conduct experimental procedures, including murine surgery, in-vivo imaging, and molecular/cellular techniques.
Document and report experimental data for ongoing projects.
Assist with regulatory compliance and documentation for studies.
Prepare and edit research-related proposals and policies.
Train and supervise research staff.
Maintain the laboratory and equipment; order necessary supplies and equipment.
Participate in routine management meetings to coordinate research with the PI.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Neuroscience or Biology.
Experience in murine surgery, in vivo imaging, histology and biochemical or molecular assessments.
Demonstrated expertise through scholarly publications, presentations in neuroscience, CNS trauma and disease.
Target Compensation Maximum:
$77,600.00Target Compensation Minimum:
$51,700.00Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
