Job Description

Summary

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Chen laboratory in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine to study GI cancers. The lab has a strong interest in cancer biology, focusing on discovering novel genomic and proteomic alterations associated with GI cancers, and translating this knowledge into novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The postdoc will join us to investigate the neoplastic progression of colitis associated colorectal cancer, using several model systems, including cell culture models, 3D human organoid cultures, mouse models, and human gastrointestinal tissues. We apply proteomics, metaproteomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics approaches to dissect the complex interplays between gut microbiota and host response, and investigate how they affect the development of colorectal cancer. The successful candidate should have a recent PhD degree in molecular biology or related biological science fields. The candidates should have excellent communication skill, be highly self-motivated and work well in a team. Experience in animal models is required.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs, and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments under the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Ru Chen.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Establishes new research protocols and procedures pertinent to the projects.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals.
  • Maintains laboratory operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A recent Ph.D degree in molecular biology or related biological science fields.
  • Prior first author publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • Highly motivated in biomedical research.
  • Excellent communication, time management and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in animal models is required.
