Description
The Biology Department at the University of North Alabama invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Biology beginning August 2025. The department offers a variety of Bachelor of Science options in the Biology major - Environmental Biology, General Biology, Cellular/Molecular Biology, Pre-Health Biology, and Professional Biology as well as a Major in Marine Biology. Essential Job Duties
Primary teaching duties will include majors and non-majors introductory biology and upper-division courses related to the candidate’s particular area of expertise; the regular teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester (fall/spring; summer teaching is optional but not required). The area of teaching specialization for this position is open, but preference may be given to individuals whose background includes cell biology, plant biology, mammalogy, ornithology, herpetology, or anatomy and physiology and/or complements the expertise of current faculty in the department. Development of an active research agenda and publications are required for tenure and promotion. Other expectations include participation in academic advising and service on departmental, college, and university committees as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Biology or a biology-related discipline (ABD with a completion date by August 2025 will be considered); applicants must also have broad expertise in biology. Excellence in undergraduate teaching, research (including research activities involving students), and service are expected.

Transcripts with a designation of “Issued to Student”, or with the student name listed as the recipient will not be considered official. Official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate prior to the start date of the appointment, but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process.
