Associate Professor/Professor and Director, Institute for Translational and Emerging Research in Advanced Comparative Therapy (INTERACT) Department of Physiological Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine, Oklahoma State University
The Department of Physiological Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Oklahoma State University (https://vetmed.okstate.edu/about/departments.html) is seeking applications for a tenure track faculty position. Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant field (see departmental research areas, below) and should have experience commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. A DVM or equivalent degree is desirable, but not required. A record of extramural funding, along with administrative experience, is also desirable. Appointment to an endowed chair (Sitlington Chair) is possible for the appropriately qualified candidate.
The successful candidate will be responsible for administrative and scientific leadership of the INTERACT program (https://vetmed.okstate.edu/research/interact/interact.html) and will participate in the University’s OneHealth Initiative. Other responsibilities of the position will encompass the traditional responsibilities of a land grant university, including research, teaching of veterinary medical and graduate students, and service on departmental and college committees. Research will be the primary emphasis of the position, but the precise breakdown of the appointment will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate based upon their interests.
The Department of Physiological Sciences encompasses the disciplines of physiology, anatomical sciences, pharmacology, and toxicology. Departmental faculty members are funded by the NIH, including a COBRE grant for respiratory infectious diseases (https://ocrid.okstate.edu/), the Department of Defense, USDA, American Heart Association, and other extramural agencies. Particular areas of strength for the department include comparative exercise physiology (https://vetmed.okstate.edu/labs/cepl/index.html), aging/neurodegeneration, diabetes/metabolic disease (https://vetmed.okstate.edu/research/comparative-metabolism-lab/), respiratory infectious disease, toxicology (Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program; https://gradcollege.okstate.edu/programs/toxicology/) cancer biology and novel treatments for cancer. Candidates will be reviewed in the context of selecting individuals with skills and professional interests that complement and enhance existing departmental programs.
The Oklahoma State University system enrolls approximately 36,000 students on its four campuses in Stillwater, Tulsa, Okmulgee, and Oklahoma City. Opportunities for multidisciplinary research exist with faculty in the College’s three departments, as well as with other faculty on the Stillwater campus and at the OSU Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa. In addition, opportunities are available for collaboration with researchers at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Oklahoma City as well as the University of Tulsa. The College of Veterinary Medicine enrolls 106 professional students per year in the veterinary curriculum, with approximately 100 faculty and 60 graduate students. The Department of Physiological Sciences includes 23 tenure track and career track faculty (https://vetmed.okstate.edu/about/faculty-staff.html) and 26 graduate students. The College of Veterinary Medicine has invested in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, with more than 40,000 square feet of laboratory space across three buildings, to accomplish our mission of service to companion animal, livestock, and human health and well-being. Our College has general-use equipment and instrumentation to support research conducted by our faculty, including real-time PCR, flow cytometry, microarray printing and scanning, and imaging. The College has also an on-site vivarium for housing research animals and our animal care program is accredited by the
Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC). Additional research facilities at OSU include Innovation Park, which houses the OSU Microscopy Laboratory (confocal and electron microscopy) and the OneHealth Innovation Lab; the Henry Bellmon Research Center, which is the home of the Center for Genomics and Proteomics; and NMR and x-ray crystallography cores in the Department of Chemistry.
Stillwater is located about an hour away from each of Oklahoma’s two largest cities, Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Stillwater has a population of approximately 46,000 and offers a low cost of living, various leisure activities, Big XII sporting events and numerous other amenities.
