Summary
The Research Technician II position will primarily entail assisting with the execution of research experiments. The Research Technician will have extensive direct interactions with the Principal Investigator and have ample opportunity for learning and growth. Responsibilities are mainly focused on generating experimental data. Related example responsibilities that includes but are not limited to conducting experiments focused on the ocular surface, corneal injuries, managing mouse colonies, and molecular biology techniques.
Job Duties
- Performs standard animal care and husbandry duties thatincludesmaintaining and managing animal colonies.
- Conducts experiments in the laboratory that includes but are not limited to immunohistochemistry, western blotting, tissue processing, imaging, PCR, and mouse handling.
- Collects, analyzes, and summarizes experimental data into graphs and presentation format and assists with publications.
- Documents experiments in laboratory notebooks accurately that would allow others to successfully replicate experiments.
- Ensures proper record-keeping and compliance with institutional protocols for animal welfare.
- Assists with other routine lab work and experiments as needed.
- Learns and becomes familiar with lab activities, assists as needed, cleansand maintainsthe lab space.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tissue culture, molecular biology techniques
- Experience working with animals in a research is a plus; be comfortable handling and working with mice is required.
- Experience working in a scientific laboratory for two years is a plus.
- Has the laboratory skills that includes animal colony handling and maintenance, generic laboratory skills (pipetting, sterile technique, safely using centrifuges and other commonly used equipment), ability to critically read the scientific literature.
- Has the ability and willingness to learn new skills, and ability to take initiative.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal skills.
