To deliver catered goods to off premise locations meeting firm deadlines, to load and haul food, equipment, supplies and decorations without damage, to perform custodial services in off-premise event locations, to provide 'relief' coverage for absence of Stock Clerk/Custodian and when assigned.

Job Function:

To deliver catered goods to off premise locations meeting firm deadlines, to load and haul food, equipment, supplies and decorations without damage, to perform custodial services in off-premise event locations, to provide 'relief' coverage for absence of Stock Clerk/Custodian and when assigned.

Minimum Education:

1.High School diploma or equivalent (GED).

Minimum Experience:

1. Must possess and maintain a valid For-Hire endorsement and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
2. Must possess a valid IN alcohol service employee permit or obtain within a reasonable amount of time as determined by Ball State University.
3. Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and university policies, procedures, communications, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
4. Must have clean body, teeth, hair, nails, and clothing.
5.No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals, or other materials or environmental factors in food service, e.g. steam, dust, etc.
6.Must be able to perform all physical and mental requirements outlined in each job duty/responsibility.
7. Must have at least one year work experience (full time or part time).
8.You must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Experience:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Check contracts and delivery schedule for each day. Load truck or department car with equipment, food, supplies, beverages, decorations and whatever else has been ordered for the event, taking care to properly secure, tie down, or 'pad' to balance load to prevent load shifting or falling over. Damage to load due to improper loading and securing is unacceptable. Must wear proper safety equipment and follow safety rules. Must fill out report to record equipment, decorations, etc., being taken from the building.
  • Drive to catering sites allowing enough time to arrive and set up by the contracted time. Allow extra time for traffic, inclement weather, parking the vehicle, dock access, and other things that could cause delay. Driving at a speed or in a manner that causes damage to the load is unacceptable.
  • Unload goods and deliver to the specific site of the event. Place goods as directed by management in charge OR by the client in the event it is a 'drop off' order. Remember to refrigerate potentially hazardous or perishable foods. Freeze items that are to be frozen. Plug in mobile hot carts and mobile refrigerators as needed to maintain safe food temperatures until served. Check with management (or client) before leaving the site to be sure they received everything to their satisfaction. If not, radio to management to get a solution. Load equipment, and other goods that are no longer needed and are ready to be returned. Must wear and have radio turned on at all times.
  • Deal with clients and management in a courteous, professional manner, always with an attitude of helpfulness, efficiency, and outstanding customer service. Never voice complaints or problems to the client, instead, bring them to the attention of management for solution. Be sure uniform is spotlessly clean and neat for each delivery. Must follow rules for personal appearance and cleanliness at all times a defined in employee handbook.
  • Perform set up of simple events including but not limited to: skirting serving tables and placing food and beverage in proper order for self-service. Check with the client to be sure they have everything they ordered. Indicate to the client the time for your return to pick up equipment. Failure to pick up equipment is unacceptable and leads to loss or theft.
  • Return to event venues to pick up catering equipment. Deliver same to proper location.
  • Provide daily custodial services for the entire Alumni Center kitchen including, but not limited to: ceilings, lights, walls, floors, drain troughs, doors, trash cans, hand sinks, towel and soap dispensers, hood system and tops of equipment requiring a ladder, walk-in refrigerators, ice machine, all shelving units, dish machine deliming and cleaning, custodial room and supply rooms, resulting in a clean and sanitary facility. This duty requires careful time planning and coordination with delivery and pick-up schedules a priority.
  • Provide custodial services for other off-premise sites including but not limited to kitchen trash removal, cleaning kitchen trash cans and hand sinks, cleaning mobile equipment stored at the site, deliming and cleaning dish machine, and cleaning hood systems and tops of equipment requiring a ladder.
  • Perform duties of the Stock Clerk/Custodian in the absence of that employee and/or whenever assigned.
  • Responsible to maintain interior of vehicles in a clean condition at all times, to fill up gas, to take for scheduled maintenance, and to report maintenance problems immediately.
  • May assist with dish washing, manual pots and pans, washing, deep cleaning, and other duties as assigned.
  • Must follow rules and regulations as defined in handbooks, training manuals, bulletin boards and as communicated by management.
