Job Description
The Mankin & Vasquez-Laslop lab studies molecular mechanisms of protein synthesis. We are investigating how the ribosome, the most ancient and sophisticated molecular machine of the cell, makes proteins, how translation factors help it in this endeavor, and how antibiotics prevent it from doing its job. We are also engineering the ribosome to enable new functions and get insights in its origin and evolution.Duties

• Participate in weekly lab meetings, Journal Clubs and common seminars within the Department.
• Carry out experiments aimed at understanding the mechanisms of protein synthesis and antibiotic action.
• May supervise graduate, professional, and undergraduate students in their research projects.
• Present results of the studies at the laboratory meetings, the seminars of the Center for Biomolecular Sciences, regional, national, and international scientific meetings.
• Present most recent scientific papers relevant to the subject of the study at the laboratory Journal Club meetings.
