Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Development (SEDOD), Foundation Relations, the Director will be responsible for proactively identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding foundation donors and prospects. Under the direction of the SEDOD, the Director will plan and implement strategic fundraising activities for City of Hope clinical, research, capital, program and endowment priorities. This will include developing letters of intent and grant proposals to obtain funding from grant-making organizations. Further, the Director will implement appropriate follow-up reporting and stewardship activities, including assisting with face-to-face donor visits, in coordination with the Senior Director of Foundation Experience and Engagement (SDFEE). The Director will serve as a key resource for the City of Hope faculty and staff in sharing best practices in stewardship of fundraising.

The Director must have a strong grasp of foundation fundraising and the relevant administrative, legal, and financial regulations. The position requires exceptional organizational, analytical, writing and editing skills, strong attention to detail, as well as the ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner with donors, philanthropy colleagues, faculty, administrators, and staff. The Director exercises considerable judgement in the preparation, management and submission of fundraising proposals and reports.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Manages a portfolio of foundation donors and develops strategic plans to approach donors under the guidance of the SEDOD. Prepares, edits, and presents letters of intent and proposals to foundation donors and/or advisors in order to achieve metrics and reach an annual fundraising goal.
  • Ensures donor deadlines for proposals and letters are met.
  • Conducts foundation prospect research as needed to develop and implement donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Foundation Experience and Engagement on donor stewardship and reporting. Works with SDFEE and Foundation Relations Project Analyst to ensure progress report deadlines are met.
  • Handles other written communication associated with donor stewardship as needed.
  • Maintains an understanding and knowledge of foundation fundraising techniques. Stays abreast of developments in biomedical research and medicine.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 5 years in grant development and/or administration. Relevant education or related experience in biomedical sciences or health care may be substituted for part of this requirement.
  • Experience in a complex medical or academic development setting encouraged.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $46.25 - $77.24 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
