College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
Job Summary
This is an advanced professional, technical and supervisory level in the coordination of related research protocols and the administrative supervision of research staff in support of research initiatives. Work includes responsibility for ensuring compliance to Federal and state research guidelines, allocation of fiscal and physical resources and the timely completion of research projects. Employees in this class have total responsibility for project management, which may include the design of research methodology, funding proposals, selection of study subjects, and presenting of professional papers. Incumbents will serve as the representative of the PI and the Medical College of Georgia, which may include travel to off-site clinical centers for diagnosis of problems and resolution of conflicts that may endanger the research goals. Work reviewed principally by observation of results obtained and through conferences.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Provides planning for research projects
Provides planning, management, coordination, oversight and review of proposed and ongoing research projects in an assigned laboratory or research unit.
Maintain liaison for administrative and analytical staff
Maintains liaison between administrative and analytical staff.
Monitor research methods to insure compliance
Monitors research methods to insure compliance with Federal regulations and other pertinent organizations to include use of radioactive materials, bio-hazardous materials and experimental animals.
Develops and manages a Quality Assurance
Develops and manages a Quality Assurance monitoring system for all related protocols.
Provides technical assistance
Provides specialized technical assistance to professional and technical personnel in gathering, recording, analyzing, interpreting and presenting of statistical and other research data within FDA regulations and ethical standards established by the research institute.
Supervises all non-technical and technical research support
Supervises all non-technical and technical research support staff related to the research project. Trains staff in mandated techniques for research projects.
Perform complex scientific data
Performs complex scientific data reductions requiring use of independent judgment based on relevant technical experience.
Develops complex computer programs
Develops complex computer programs involving scientific and mathematical problems and appropriate statistical data analysis procedures and methodology to solve research problems.
Coordinates library and computer searches
Coordinates library and computer searches for research and other technical data.
Coordinates the data in compliance with FDA regulations
Coordinates the collection, coding, computer analysis and documentation of data in compliance with FDA regulations.
Makes all administrative and technical arrangements
Makes all administrative and technical arrangements for major research experiments or projects including the recruitment of study subjects; maintains records of the different phases of these projects and experiments and associated finances insuring completion of project(s) on schedule.
Prepares professional papers
Prepares professional papers on research results and presents them at scientific meetings.
Develops project-funding proposals
Develops project-funding proposals using budget estimates and recommendations for personnel, equipment, and operating supplies. May work with public and private agencies to obtain research grants.
Coordinates the maintenance of research facilities
Coordinates the maintenance of research facilities, machinery, and equipment and the purchase of supplies and equipment. Maintains inventory of supplies; orders replacement and new reagents as needed.
Performs other duties as needed
Performs related work as required.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year directly applicable experience; previous supervisory experience.
OR
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience; or major coursework completed on a Ph.D. in a related scientific field with two years of progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: 12
Salary Minimum: $63,200.00/Annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
