Job Summary
The IT Systems Architect 1 position serves under the supervision of the Director of Web and Digital Services to perform architecture and programming support on multiple projects. Works closely with Web Services team members and business partners during all phases of projects to analyze requirements in the context of related infrastructure applications and systems. Works with customers, external and internal to IT, to support existing and new PHP applications, databases, and the infrastructure on which they reside. This staff member will carry-out her/his duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acting in the best interest of the organization, and fully supporting the mission, vision, and values of Augusta University and all entities represented.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
PROGRAMMING SUPPORT: Works with customers to provide programming support for PHP applications supporting augusta.edu and other websites, including rearchitecting existing applications to meet current design standards, testing and addressing cybersecurity issues, and debugging.
MANAGE AND ADMINISTER: Manage and administer the server architecture for existing website technologies for augusta.edu and related properties, including managing software versions, ensuring reliability and uptime, and defining clear upgrade paths for critical web server architecture.
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES: Investigate emerging technologies and act as a subject matter expert to determine technology and infrastructure standards cross-functionally; Participates in special projects.
MODELS, PROCESSES AND POLICIES: Define and document target architecture models, processes and policies related to core infrastructure; Anticipate growth and ensure scalability of the infrastructure to include servers, storage, network and infrastructure applications.
REVIEWS AND AUDITS: Lead architecture reviews and audits, including technical security, disaster recovery and business continuity programs; Serve as a subject matter expert for design of technical infrastructure to integrate solutions into existing technology standards.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field with one year of relevant experience, OR Associate's degree with a minimum of eight years of relevant, experience in system architect.
Preferred Qualifications
Programming experience in PHP, including having seen multiple PHP development projects to completion
Understanding of, and experience managing, a LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
Knowledge of modern web development best practices
Familiarity with front-end web development tools, technologies, and languages
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE

Solid understanding of information processing fundamentals and best practices
Familiarity and expertise in a variety of programs
SKILLS


Proven experience developing strategic system architecture plans
Extensive experience in system and network creation and development
Experience conducting technology, trends, standards and products research
Solid track record in prioritizing and executing tasks when under pressure
Experience providing guidance and leadership to novice systems engineers
Proven experience identifying, analyzing and resolving system problems
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Above-average analytical, conceptual and troubleshooting abilities.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday-Friday *Work outside of the regular business hours may be required.
Pay Band: B14
Salary: $75,300/annually - $82,800/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
