Job Profile SummaryUnder general supervision, the purpose of this job is to perform a range of landscape maintenance duties, working safely with gas and diesel powered equipment, and attending to plants, trees and lawns on assigned campus. Employees in this job classification are responsible for performing daily routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment, fencing and ground features as needed. Performs related work as directed.
This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant
to Florida Statute 295. Certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for
postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political
subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.
Minimum Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
Minimum Experience/Training:
- Two or more years relevant experience
Minimum Certification/Licenses:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver’s License within 30 days after beginning employment by the College.
Essential Functions:
- Daily -20%: Participates in routine maintenance and repair duties and may occasionally work independently when assigned to a specific task/project.
- Daily -10%: Operates lawn maintenance equipment in the mowing, edging, weeding, trimming and pruning of grounds, shrubs, trees and plant beds.
- Daily -10%: Participates in landscape design, installs new plantings, mulch, top soils, irrigation trenching and edging.
- Weekly -10%: Performs watering of new plants and maintenance of beds.
- Weekly -10%: Lubricates services and makes routine inspections and repairs on equipment.
- Daily-10%: Performs a full range of landscaping maintenance duties including leaf removal, lawn care and irrigation.
- Daily -10%: Removes litter and empties trash receptacles.
- Daily -10%: Assures roads, parking lots and walks are maintained for safe pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Daily-5%: Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops and on the job training.
- Daily -5%: Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Frequently acts in a helping or assistant mode
- Standard trade skills required
- Ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle may be required
